CORTON GRAND CRU

CORTON GRAND CRU

CORTON GRAND CRU Les Chaumes – RED  (Pinot Noir)

Le suprême Corton Grand Cru

APPELLATION

An emblematic figure of Burgundy, Corton is a Grand Cru appellation produced in the two colors in the towns of Aloxe Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses. The terroirs of  ‘la montagne des Corton’ have the astonishing ability to produce structured wines that are perfect for long aging.

Corton, “the king of the bons-vivants” according to the expression by Camille Rodier (author of the work ‘Le vin de Bourgogne’, ‘The Wine of Burgundy’), has vineyards ranging between 250 and 330 meters of altitude, forming an amphitheater without equal in the Côte. With its southeastern/southwestern orientation (rare in the Côte), this hill offers a perfect geological cross-section: the Oxford Jurassic layers are younger than in the rest of the Côte between Ladoix et Meursault (145 million years). Halfway up the hill, the gently sloping land is reddish and gravelly, with brown limestone, rich with marl with a high potassium content. It offers Pinot Noir the ability to bloom fully.

TASTING COMMENTS

In a red, the Corton presents itself with a deep purple and dark red velvet appearance. Its broad  bouquet expresses toasted accents of roast coffee that are fruity (blueberries, currants, kirsch) evolving toward underbrush, leather, pepper and liquorice. It is powerful and full-flavored on the palate, structured and willingly demonstrating its body and bluntness.

At times firm and frank, powerful and full-bodied, this Corton will unquestionably pair well with a duck à l’orange, nice meats in sauce, hare stew, deer medallions and ripened cheeses.

Serving Temperature: 16 to 18 °C.
